Short Bio – 225 words

Jennie Brown embraces an entrepreneurial spirit in her career. As an Innova Recording Artist, she is releasing her debut solo CD The Music of Joseph Schwantner in 2015. As Artistic Director and flutist with Picosa, www.PicosaMusic.com, Brown and her colleagues launch their second concert season with multiple series in Chicago’s Gottlieb Hall and PianoForte Chicago, as well as the historic Mayslake Peabody Estate, Oak Brook. Additionally, with a commitment to teaching and bringing music to underserved communities, Picosa looks forward to concerts in numerous colleges and workshops for children in partnership with Hesed House, www.HesedHouse.com.  Brown also serves as director and faculty member at Credo Flute where she teaches with flutists Bonita Boyd and Tadeu Coelho, http://www.credo-music.org/credo-flute/.

She has recently published articles in the National Flute Association’s Flutist Quarterly, “Collaborative Play: Flutists/Composer Commissions”, and in Flute Talk, “An Interview with Shulamit Ran”.

Dr. Brown teaches at Elmhurst College and directs the Elmhurst College Summer Music Academy. http://public.elmhurst.edu/music/238491941.html.  She has also been on faculty at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music since 2002. She has performed in Music Festivals at Aspen, the Music Academy of the West, and Norfolk. She graduated from the Eastman School of Music (DMA, MM, Performers Certificate), Northwestern University (BM) and the Interlochen Arts Academy (HS).
